TARANTULA SPIDER ORNAMENT - HAND-MADE BY ARTISAN FROM THE PERUVIAN AMAZON
This unique fair-trade ornament represents the Mexican red-knee tarantula. Tarantulas are a diverse group of spiders found in both wet and dry climates. It is an efficient predator of small prey in the forest, but some species allow themselves to be handled by calm people. Any of these ornaments will look great hanging on your Christmas tree, rear-view mirror or adding a distinctive companion to your favorite hat.
These ornaments are handmade by Peruvian Amazon artisans from natural chambira palm fiber. The sale of these ornaments supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru.
These ornaments were made by an artisan from several villages along the Maranon River. Each craft comes with a tag listing the name and village of the artisan who made it and the plants used to make it.
Please remember that each craft is hand made so its exact design may vary from the photo shown for this model.

Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
