A magnificent harpy eagle towers above the rainforest in this original painting by Huitoto Indigenous artist Percy Diaz.
The artist emphasizes the characteristics that make the harpy eagle one of the world's most extraordinary birds of prey: an enormous hooked bill, raised feathered crest, massive legs, huge gripping feet and talons, broad body, patterned wings, and strongly barred tail.
The eagle commands nearly the entire vertical composition. Behind it, a glowing sky shifts from golden yellow through warm red into deep blue above a densely painted Amazon forest. The contrast gives the bird a monumental presence, while a close-up photograph reveals the detailed treatment of its eye, crest, facial feathers, and formidable bill.
Percy Diaz is a Huitoto artist from Puca Urquillo, an Indigenous community on the Ampiyacu River near Pebas in the northern Peruvian Amazon. This painting was probably created between 2012 and 2014.
The harpy eagle is a top predator of mature tropical forests and an evocative symbol of Amazonian biodiversity. With its strong vertical composition, this work could be an exceptional statement piece in a study, living room, entrance hall, office, eco-lodge, nature center, birding organization, restaurant, museum-oriented space, or collection devoted to wildlife or Indigenous Amazonian art.

Display & Shipping
This original llanchama painting is sold unframed. Llanchama is a flexible natural bark cloth that may be professionally framed or mounted according to the buyer's preferred display style. For shipment, the painting will be carefully protected and rolled around a rigid support rather than folded.
Because llanchama is a natural bark cloth, variations in surface texture, thickness, coloration, and edge shape are integral characteristics of the material rather than defects.
