Amazon Owl Calabash Wall Hanging - made by Peruvian artisan
Handcrafted from half of a natural calabash tree fruit and finished with a chambira palm fiber hanging cord. Traditionally, calabash fruit halves have been used in the Amazon as simple bowls for holding foods, drinks, and small household items. This one-of-a-kind piece has been transformed into a decorative hanging, carefully cleaned, dried, darkened with black polish, and etched by hand to reveal an owl surrounded by Shipibo-inspired ayahuasca flower motifs and flowing geometric line work.
Measuring approximately 5 inches tall, 4.5 inches across, and 2 inches deep, it can be displayed on a wall, doorway, hook, or shelf as a distinctive piece of Amazon forest art.
This unique piece comes with a tag listing the name and home of the artisan who made it and the plants used to create it.

Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
