Natural White Circular Nakar Shell Earrings
The original material of these earrings is the nakar shell from the ocean, featured here in their natural white color, adorned with turquoise, huayruru bead or sodalite stone beads.
Huayruru seeds are naturally two-tone seeds from this distinctive group of tropical trees in the bean family and are mostly orange with a distinctive black patch. Throughout the Amazon they are considered to bring the bearer good luck, but it is important to remember that they are not edible. Different closely related huayruru species (Ormosia spp.) have small, medium or large size seeds.
The circles are approximately 1.375 inches in diameter.
These earrings are made by an expert artisan from Iquitos who has worked with the Center for Amazon Community Ecology for ten years. The French hooks are made with non-allergenic material.
Please remember that these handmade crafts may vary from the photos shown.

Support native artisans & rainforest in the Amazon
Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
