This unique fair-trade ornament represents the black-collared hawk.  Local people from the Peruvian Amazon often call this white-headed raptor "mama vieja" (old mama).perhaps due to its white colored head.  Visitors to the region can often hear its high-pitched call as it perches on a high branch overlooking small rivers waiting to swoop down and grab a fish.

This hand-woven figure will look great hanging on your Christmas tree, rear-view mirror or adding a colorful touch to another part of your home. Displaying this fair-trade craft will remind people about the importance of protecting tropical forests which host this and thousands of other unique kinds of wildlife.

The sale of these ornaments supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru.  This craft was woven by artisans from villages on the Maranon River with natural chambira palm fiber.

Please remember that each ornament was hand-made so the exact design of the craft may vary from the photo.
